1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series 5 Vantage
Production of the Series 5 started in September 1962, the car you see here was built in November 1962 this DB4 Series 5 Aston Martin was fitted with the Vantage "Special Series" engine. It features three SU HD8 Carburettors supplying the air and fuel to a cylinder head with larger valves and a higher compression ratio. The engine block remained the same as the previous DB4's but the Vantage upgrades took the power up by 10% to over 265BHP. For the Series 5 the body was also lengthened by 9cm which gave more rear leg room, a larger boot and importantly a higher roofline.
DB4/1020/R was built with the following options when ordered:
"Special Series" Vantage engine.
David Brown gearbox with Overdrive.
Heated rear screen.
Motorola Model 808 radio.
Electric power windows. (Which became standard on the DB5)
Avon tyres
Many say the DB4 Series 5 Vantage had become the DB5 with which it is very visually similar.
Originally painted in Dubonnet with Fawn leather interior this car comes complete with a comprehensive history file including letters to and from Aston Martin Lagonda Limited, invoices, and a copy of the original build sheet. Old registration documents show this car has had only 5 owners from new and now has its original number plate again 6633 PK. There is also a British Heritage Trust Certificate showing a new cost of £2,785.00 plus £686 Tax.
Now with fresh restoration work carried out DB4/1020/R is one of only 136 such models made and is ready to be appreciated for many years to come.
